I had the great pleasure of working with Ivory Flame recently, primarily to shoot a gold hat from Terri, the Victorian Hatter but also to try out some new ideas and add some new portfolio images. I was also fortunate to secure the amazing talents of Lizbeth Makeup Artist for the whole day, I loved the ‘Clockwork Orange’ stylee makeup which Liz used and complemented the black and gold hat beautifully.

The floor length organza cloak which was attached to the hat was used to great effect by Holly and we used the wind machine in the studio to add an extra dynamic to the images.

This particular set also works extremely well in a warm, snappy black and white… very Hollywood!

We also had the chance to play with some dry ice to give some beautiful, atmospheric fog effects.

At the end of the shoot we found we had time for a new look and so took a set with the red hat, more beautifully judged makeup from Liz and some amazing poses from Holly made for another great set.

A very productive day and a very happy client!

I’ve discovered some amazing hats from the super talented Terri Tovill at ‘The Victorian Hatter’
Here’s just one shot of Victoria Magenta looking fab in one of Terri’s creations called ‘Madame Ruby Noir’. A gorgeous hat with flowing veils and stunning details like the black coq feather sweeping back on the left side.

I’m already starting to plan another shoot with Terri’s hats, I’ve added a black one to the collection and am torn between gold and purple for the next… whichever one I choose I’ve got some great additions to the prop collection in the studio!

I had the great pleasure of a couples shoot with Kelly and Chris this week, lovely people and great fun to shoot with! We were fortunate enough to hit a nice bright day with a solid cloud cover which gave a lovely, soft light out in the woods. It’s the perfect weather for a portrait shoot as we could get some great sets in the studio then on with the wellies for the shots outside.

Kelly is my favourite type of portrait client as she was convinced that she wasn’t photogenic at all! It turned out that she needed very little help to look fantastic… a real natural in front of the camera and she loves the pictures, that’s what makes it all worthwhile for me! Here is one with a touch of cross processing and edging towards High-Key for those lovely porcelain skin tones.

My thanks to Kelly and Chris for their permission to use their images… looking forward to the next shoot!

I’ve just finished a mad couple of weeks with a mind boggling variety of shoots! One day it’s a baby portrait, then a set of business portraits for a Physiotherapist, then a family shoot, then a property interior for Harrogate Holidays, then a lovely lady who wanted some glamorous images just for herself… this business is certainly varied!
The shoot I wanted to tell you about here though is the one I did for The General Tarleton this week. If you haven’t heard of it (where have you been?!!) it’s a terrific restaurant with rooms in Ferrensby, near Knaresborough. Run by the supremely talented John Topham and his lovely wife Claire, The GT is well worth a visit if you’re a lover of good food and welcoming service. They have just completed a stunning refurbishment of three of the public rooms… which is why I was there of course!

From the welcoming new reception area to the gorgeously appointed new bar and lounge and the new upstairs dining area, the whole scheme oozes taste and style.

The new dining area upstairs looks like an awesome venue for a private party…

A joy to photograph and a must for the list of places to visit… I’ll be taking Mrs H soon!

It’s that dreaded time of year when you just can’t decide what elusive gift to give a loved one for Christmas! So here I am riding to the rescue with half price portrait shoot vouchers which can be used any time in the first six months of 2012.

It could be a ‘Family Shoot’ for mum and dad, a ‘Beautiful Woman’ shoot for the special lady in your life or even a ‘Pet Shoot’ for the dog! Whatever the reason, the voucher is just £45.00 (inc. VAT) which includes a 10×8 inch mounted print from the shoot. It can also be customized with discounts on prints and canvases if you wish… Have a look at the ‘Pricing‘ page on my website for more details.
While we’re talking about Christmas, a quick message to all my portrait clients… If you want to order any FRAMED prints as Christmas gifts, the last date for safely ordering is Friday 9th December. Our framers get very busy at this time of year (probably because they’re so good!) and can’t guarantee delivery in time for Christmas for orders made after this date. Plain prints and canvases will be fine for another week after this as I make them all myself and will stay up all night to get them done in time if I have to!

Had a great shoot at the weekend with the super fit Steve Collins of Steve Collins Personal Training!
I particularly liked this shot of Steve against a custom background which I made on my big Epson printer… no Photoshop wizardry here, lit with just one tight light to camera left and this is pretty much how it came out of the camera… click on the picture for a bigger image:

We spent a very productive couple of hours and got a great portfolio of images both in the studio and out in the woods. I look forward to seeing this and all the rest of the shots appearing on Steve’s site soon!
